Recently, I've realized that:

Learning under a master is both humbling and satisfying.
I have started my Ashtanga Apprenticeship. This is a man I saw in India carving wood. Some things you can only learn by doing.

Moving into drop backs was not as bad as I thought it would be.
Ending each morning with backbending had been rough for a while. As soon as it got a bit easier, I had to start crawling up the wall. Moving forward....

Constant barrages of snow are pretty wonderful when you don't have to drive.
However, helping those that do drive unbury their car is anything is not.

White board paint is one of the most useful things you can purchase.
Also, using it increases the stock of office supplies which can be appropriately 'borrowed' from work.

Animation is fun to make in a tedious and addictive way.
Sketched and animated this GIF birthday card for a tall skinny man that juggles. I am happy to put a GIF on the internet that doesn't involve children falling into puddles. (Click to see movement).

Legal Exhibits are almost never as interesting as the ones you see on TV. No pictures, weapons, or tangible objects. The vast majority are emails.

 Always. Document. Everything

Do I know you?

Faceless Composition by Lara Fairie
I found this test for face-blindness last night. My boyfriend and I were discussing the topic because we've both suspected that he has this condition for a while now. True to it's name, face-blindness is an impairment in one's ability to perceive, and thus recognize, faces. When he informed me yesterday evening that his new haircut made it difficult for him to recognize himself in the mirror, I thought it was high time to put our theory to the test.

It only took about 20 minutes to do and proved extremely interesting (well, it did to me anyway, but I live for this shit). Our results were hilariously different, and went a long way in confirming our suspicions. If anyone out there is as into the nerdy enjoyment I got from seeing these results, or perhaps just wants to know if a history of "not remembering" people has a reason, I'd suggest checking it out!

Feel free to share any results :)

Before Alice.

a past which can never again be present

About a year ago, I remember missing the bus and walking in late for my tattoo appointment. I was nervous; far more so about finding things to talk about with a stranger for 3 hours than of needles puncturing my skin.

Thankfully, the whole process was pretty comfortable, even without a shirt on. Getting a tattoo on your back is pretty tame on the pain scale, and it wasn't until the last 20 shading-over-raw-skin-minutes that I began to wince.  My artist, Alex, was a burly dude; young, and, unsurprisingly, covered in ink from head to toe.  From the outside, most people would assume he was someone who spent his evenings partyin' hard, whiskey in hand. Turned out he preferred early nights and Shirley Temples (with extra Maraschino's please).

Oh appearances, how often you deceive.

My favorite art is usually the type of thing which would make an inappropriate desktop background at work.
